This procedure involves the removal of excess fat tissue in patients who do not have weight problems but have localized fat deposits. The goal of this procedure is not weight loss, but rather the correction of body contours. It is one of the most commonly performed cosmetic surgeries. It can be combined with many other cosmetic procedures. It is most commonly performed on stubborn fat deposits in the abdomen, waist, thighs, and knees that do not respond to diet and exercise. It is an ideal option for the chin area of the face. In this surgery, fat tissue is removed with the help of vacuum suction through 2-3 mm incisions using thin, long cannulas with a diameter of 2-3 mm.
During the consultation, your overall health will be assessed. Your current medical conditions, medications, and previous surgeries will be discussed. A detailed examination will be performed. The fat deposits in the area to be treated and the quality of your skin will be evaluated. Photographs will be taken before every cosmetic surgery, and drawings will be made immediately before the surgery to plan the procedure.
Depending on the incisions we make to access the areas where liposuction will be performed, you will have as many 0.5 cm scars as necessary. We will inform you in detail during your consultation. The scars left after surgery will be permanent. Although they will be more noticeable at first, they will fade within a year.
The procedure is performed under general anesthesia. Its duration varies depending on the amount of fat to be removed and the number of areas to be treated. Small incisions, approximately 2-3 mm in size, are made near the area where fat will be extracted. Through these incisions, a solution is first administered to ensure you feel no pain. Subsequently, the fat is suctioned out using a cannula.
We recommend staying in the hospital for one night after the surgery. Pain following liposuction surgery varies depending on the treated area and the amount of fat removed, but it is tolerable. We prescribe painkillers and antibiotics after discharge. We recommend resting for 7-10 days. You will also need to wear a special compression garment for 6 weeks.
You can see the results of the surgery immediately, but the swelling associated with the operation will take approximately 1-2 months to subside, and it will take 6-12 months to take its final shape.
The results of the surgery are permanent.
In liposuction surgery, the number of fat cells in the treated area is reduced. However, if a significant amount of weight is gained, the volume of existing fat cells in the treated area, like other parts of the body, will increase, leading to possible fat accumulation again.
If you gain weight and experience fat accumulation again, you may undergo liposuction surgery once more.
Every surgery carries risks. Early or late complications related to anesthesia or surgery may occur. It is quite normal to experience widespread swelling and bruising in the areas where the procedure was performed during the early postoperative period. Rarely, situations such as bleeding or infection may be observed. The risk increases, especially in smokers. During the recovery period, depressions may rarely occur as the swelling subsides. Your scars may heal with raised tissue.
