Labioplasty

Labioplasty

Labioplasty is the removal of excess tissue from the inner lips (labia minora) of the female genital area. Excess tissue in this region can make it difficult to maintain proper genital hygiene, which may increase susceptibility to infections. It can also cause pain while sitting or during sexual intercourse. Additionally, it may be noticeable when wearing swimsuits or bikinis and can result in an unappealing appearance. Labioplasty can be performed for patients experiencing one or more of these concerns.

During the consultation, your overall health condition is assessed. Any existing medical conditions, medications you are taking, and previous surgeries are reviewed. A detailed physical examination is performed. The excess skin and the quality of the tissue in the area to be treated are evaluated. As with any aesthetic surgery, photos are taken beforehand, and surgical planning is done by making markings right before the procedure.

After the surgery, your scars will heal so well that they will hardly be noticeable. We provide detailed information during your consultation. The scar left from the procedure will be permanent. Although it may be more noticeable at first, it will become acceptable within a year.

The surgery is performed under general anesthesia or spinal anesthesia (numbing from the waist down). It takes approximately 1 hour. An incision is made on the inner lips, and the excess skin and fatty tissue are removed. The tissues are then reshaped.

After the surgery, once the effects of anesthesia have completely worn off, you may be discharged the same day if you wish. Pain after labioplasty is minimal. We prescribe painkillers and antibiotics after discharge. We recommend resting for 4 to 7 days.

Every surgery carries certain risks. Early or late complications related to anesthesia or the procedure itself may occur. In the early postoperative period, bleeding or infection can be observed in the treated area. Due to the moist nature of the region and the challenges of wound care, wound separation may occur. While these separations typically heal on their own with proper dressing and follow-up, in rare cases, additional intervention may be required if the wound opens significantly. These risks are higher, especially in individuals who smoke. Since complete wound healing is necessary before resuming sexual activity, it is recommended to wait at least 6 weeks.
