Breast reduction, one of the most commonly performed aesthetic surgeries in our country, is the procedure of reducing and reshaping overly large, sagging, and deformed breasts. In addition to aesthetic concerns, excessive breast tissue can lead to posture problems, pain in the shoulders and back, itching and rashes in the inframammary fold, and a lack of self-confidence.
During the consultation, your overall health is assessed.
Existing illnesses, medications, previous surgeries, and any family history of breast diseases are discussed.
Your pregnancy and breastfeeding history is reviewed.
A detailed examination is performed.
The volume, sagging, and skin quality of your breasts are evaluated.
Breast cancer screening is recommended before any breast aesthetic surgery.
Photos are taken before every aesthetic procedure.
The surgery leaves a scar in an “inverted T” shape: around the nipple, vertically downward, and along the breast fold.
We provide detailed explanations.
The scar will be permanent.
It may be more visible at first but will fade within a year.
We determine breast size during your consultation based on your expectations, body proportions, and safety limits to reduce risk.
The surgery is performed under general anesthesia and lasts about 2.5–3 hours.
Your nipple is repositioned based on preoperative markings.
Excess skin and breast tissue are removed, and the breast is reshaped.
The nipple is preserved.
Drains may be placed to prevent fluid or blood accumulation if needed.
We recommend staying in the hospital for one night.
Pain is minimal after breast reduction surgery.
Painkillers and antibiotics are prescribed after discharge.
We recommend 7–10 days of rest.
A special bra should be worn for 6 weeks.
You’ll see the results right away, but swelling may take about 1 month to subside, and final shape may take 6–12 months.
Breast growth is not expected after surgery.
However, significant weight gain may increase breast volume.
Weight changes, pregnancy, and breastfeeding can cause sagging.
In such cases, a revision surgery can be performed.
Every surgery has risks. Early or late complications may occur due to anesthesia or the procedure.
Early complications may include bleeding, infection, or wound separation.
Mild size or shape asymmetries may occur between breasts.
Nipple numbness is usually temporary but can rarely be permanent.
Risks are higher in smokers.
A rare but possible complication is partial or complete nipple loss.
This risk increases in smokers and in cases of extremely large breasts or significant reduction.
Breast reduction does not cause cancer.
Age-appropriate cancer screening is recommended before surgery.
An additional benefit is the possibility of detecting early-stage cancer within the removed tissue.
The connection between the nipple and milk ducts is preserved during surgery.
Therefore, breastfeeding is usually not affected, though it is still possible.
