The pre-operative examination is the assessment of your general health status. Your current diseases, medications, previous operations, and pregnancies for female patients are checked. It is especially important to evaluate surgeries that have been performed in the abdominal region. Then your detailed examination is performed. The sagging of your abdominal skin and the quality of your skin are evaluated. Before each plastic surgery, your photos are taken and the surgery is planned by drawing just before the surgery.
Our surgery will leave a scar that runs linearly between both pelvises, remaining inside your underwear/bikini and a scar around your belly button (umbilicus). Detailed information is given during the examination.The scar left in the surgery will be permanent. Although it is more obvious at first, it will become vague within 1 year.
The surgery is performed under general anesthesia. It takes about 2-3 hours. The drooping excess skin and adipose tissue are removed. The underlying muscles are tightened. A better contour can be achieved by adding liposuction to the waist area in patients who need it. In this surgery, negative pressure tubes called drains should be used to prevent blood and serum from accumulating under the skin. It is usually removed at the time of discharge, 2-3 days later, rarely it may be necessary to keep it longer.
We recommend that you stay in the hospital for 2 nights after the operation. You will have enough pain that can be controlled with painkillers. We recipe painkillers on discharge. We recommend that you rest for 7-10 days. You will also need to use a special corset for 6 weeks.
You can see the result of the surgery immediately, but it will take about 1 month for the swelling to go down and 6-12 months for the abdomen to take its final shape.
The result of the surgery is permanent.
In the early period of surgery, conditions such as bleeding, infection or wound opening may be observed. Wound healing problems may occur as the abdomen will be tense. There may be minimal asymmetry in your scar. There may be numbness in the lower abdomen. Numbness is usually a temporary complaint. Rarely, it can be permanent. This risk is increased in smokers. Your scars may heal with swelling.
Among aesthetic surgeries, it is the most common surgery with the possibility of clotting. This risk is increased in smokers. Necessary precautions are taken before and after the surgery.
Another complication is the inability to feed the lower part of the abdomen or the navel and the loss of part of the abdomen, part or all of the navel. Although very rare, it is possible. Especially in smokers, the risk increases as the nutrition of the abdomen will be impaired. For this reason, you should not smoke for at least 1 month before and after tummy tuck surgery.
Abdominoplasty is not an obstacle to pregnancy. However, it is not recommended for at least 1 year after the operation. If there is a plan in the near future, it is recommended to plan the surgery after pregnancy
