Fillers can be applied to many areas depending on the need. These are briefly forehead, temporal area, middle of the eyebrow, crow's feet, upper eyelid, lower eyelid area, nose, cheekbone, nasolabial groove between the nose and cheek, lip, corner of the mouth, jaw line and chin. It can also be applied to correct existing asymmetries.
- In which areas can the filler be applied?
- How many types of fillers are there?
Fillers can be classified as temporary fillings and permanent fillings. However, permanent fillings are poorly adapted to our body and are not preferred due to the high risk of complications.
The most commonly used fillers are hyaluronic acid fillers. This substance is FDA approved. It is a substance found in the connective tissue of our body, whose function is to retain water. With this mechanism, it moisturizes the areas where it is located and adds volume to them. Since hyaluronic acid fillers are an injection of a substance already present in the body, they do not cause any allergic reaction.
Apart from hyaluronic acid, calcium hydroxyapatite (CaHA) and poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA) fillers are available. These are denser fillings. They stimulate collagen production and last longer than hyaluronic acid. They do not cause any allergic reaction. It is not recommended to be applied in a single session and its effect is felt clearly after 4-6 weeks as it stimulates collagen production.
- How is the filler application done?
First of all, the appropriate filler material is selected in line with the patient's needs. Then, local anesthetic creams are applied to the area to be treated and waited for 20-30 minutes. Since the new generation fillers also contain local anesthetic, the procedure is performed painlessly with the effect of the cream. Nerve blocks can be applied to people who are more sensitive to pain, and that area can be completely numbed.
The process takes about 10-20 minutes depending on the application area and the amount to be applied. It can be done using a needle or cannula. At the end of the procedure, the effect is seen instantly.
- What are the considerations after the filler application?
It is not recommended to enter very hot environments such as sauna and Turkish bath on the same day after the procedure. Heavy sports should be avoided on the same day. It is recommended not to consume hot drinks for 2-3 hours after around the mouth and lip filler application. The patient can return to his normal life the next day.
- What are the complications of filler application?
There may be minimal swelling and bruising at the injection site. It usually regresses spontaneously within 1 week.
We can divide the more serious complications of filler application into two as injected material or injection site.
If the substance used is a of high quality and certified product, no complications such as allergy related to the product are expected. However, very serious complications have been reported after the application of poor quality, cheap and unknown originated products.
Complications originating from the injection site can be minimized with the training, attention and experience of the practitioner. Fillers should not be injected into nerves and veins. Catastrophic results such as necrosis of the skin of the face or blindness have been reported after injections made by unauthorized and untrained persons in an area rich in vessels and nerves and with a complex anatomy, such as the face. However, despite all precautions, such complications can be seen very rarely due to the fact that the anatomy is very variable from person to person. We inform you in detail during the consultation.
- What is under-eye light filler?
Light filler is a combination of filler and mesotherapy application. They are products that contain amino acids, antioxidants and vitamins in addition to hyaluronic acid and are specially produced for the under eye area and around it. In addition to filling the pits under the eyes, it gives moisture and elasticity to the skin and reduces dark circles under the eyes.
- How long is the duration of a filler?
Although the duration of hyaluronic acid fillers varies according to the applied area and the cross-link and particle size of the filler, it varies between 6-18 months on average.
Calcium hydroxy apatite fillers last for an average of 15 months, and poly-L-lactic acid fillers last for an average of 2 years.
