Prominent ears occur when the angle between the head and the ear is greater than normal and the upper fold of the ear is not sufficiently developed. Because it is structural, it can be operated on at a young age. The recommended age for surgery is before school age. This is because most ear development is complete by the age of 5-6. Another advantage of surgery at this stage is that it prevents the child from being bullied by peers at school because of the shape of their ears.

All individuals aged 5 years and older are eligible for surgery. It can also be performed in adulthood. It can be performed on one or both sides.

Your overall health will be assessed during the consultation. Your current illnesses, medications you are taking, and any surgeries you have undergone will be discussed.

A detailed examination is performed. The shape and angle of your ears are assessed.

Photos are taken before every cosmetic surgery.

Our surgery leaves a linear scar on the back of the ear. Since it is located behind the ear, it is hidden and not visible. Detailed information is provided.

The scar left by the surgery will be permanent. Although it will be more noticeable at first, it will fade within a year.

The surgery is performed under local or general anesthesia. It takes approximately 1-1.5 hours. An incision is made behind the ear. The ear cartilage is reshaped with permanent sutures. A bandage is applied.

We recommend staying in the hospital for one night after surgery. You will experience pain that can be controlled with pain medication. We will prescribe pain medication for you to take after discharge. We recommend resting for 7-10 days. You will also need to wear a special bandage for 6 weeks.

You can see the results of the surgery immediately, but the swelling associated with the operation will take about 1 month to subside, and it will take 6-12 months for the ear to take its final shape.

The results of the surgery are permanent.

Every surgery has risks. There may be early or late complications related to anesthesia or surgery.

In the early postoperative period, bleeding, infection, or wound dehiscence may occur. Your scars may heal with some swelling.

The most common situation in this surgery is the ear opening forward and becoming slightly protruding again due to the loosening of the sutures used. Necessary precautions are taken during surgery to prevent this. However, it can still happen. In this case, a minor correction may be required again.
